Northern Doctors HMO and Registrar Orientation sets new cohort up for success
Northern Doctors Education welcomed the 2026 HMO and Registrar cohort with a comprehensive, hybrid orientation focused on safe clinical practice, professional development and connection across sites.
The day opened with a welcome and Acknowledgement of Country from Dr Kim Jeffs, Director of Northern Doctors Education, who reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting junior doctors throughout their training.
“We are delighted to welcome our 2026 cohort and are committed to providing strong educational, clinical and wellbeing support across our health service,” said Dr Jeffs.
Key clinical priorities were addressed, including PPE training and a session on recognising and responding to deteriorating patients, was presented by Dr David Crosbie.
Directors of Clinical Training, Dr Chiu Kang and Dr Laura Ehlert, provided an overview of Northern Doctors Education, including updates on EPAs and CLA, and alignment with the AMC Framework.
Participants also received essential workforce information and introductions to key operational tools, including EMR and Medtasker, supporting a smooth transition into clinical roles.
A formal welcome from Chief Medical Officer Dr Prahlad Ho and Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Susanty Tay covered site overviews, junior medical officer (JMO) wellbeing and patient flow.
“Our priority is to ensure junior doctors feel supported, safe and well connected from day one, with clear pathways for escalation, wellbeing support and high-quality patient care,” said Dr Tay.
The day concluded with hospital tours and practical stations, setting a strong foundation for the year ahead.
