As part of Northern Health’s Project SEARCH program, ten interns are gaining hands-on workplace experience across a range of departments, building their skills and confidence as they prepare for future employment.

This week, we get to know Jordan Angelovski, who is completing his placement with the Infection Control team.

A recent La Trobe University graduate with a Bachelor of Criminology, Jordan is looking forward to building his professional experience and developing the confidence and skills that will support him throughout his career.

We caught up with Jordan to learn more about him, his experience at Northern Health so far and what he hopes to achieve through Project SEARCH.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself.

A: I recently graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Criminology, and I’m excited to start building my professional experience.

Outside of work, I enjoy playing basketball and video games. Basketball is a great way for me to stay active and connect with others, while gaming is something I enjoy in my downtime.

Q: What made you want to join Project SEARCH?

A: I joined Project SEARCH because I wanted the opportunity to gain practical workplace experience and develop skills that will help me in my future career. Having the chance to work in a professional environment, learn from others and build my confidence really appealed to me.

Q: What was your first impression of Northern Health?

A: The first thing I noticed was how friendly and welcoming everyone was. Starting in a new workplace can be a little intimidating, but the people around me made me feel comfortable and supported from the beginning. It helped make my first week a really positive experience.

Q: What are you hoping to learn during your placement?

A: One of my main goals is to build my confidence in the workplace. I also want to learn as much as I can about working in a professional environment, develop practical skills and become more comfortable taking on different tasks and responsibilities.

Q: What are you enjoying most about your placement so far?

A: I’ve enjoyed meeting new people and getting experience in a real workplace. It’s been great to be part of a team where people are supportive and willing to help me learn. Every day gives me an opportunity to experience something new and continue building my skills.

Q: How do you think Project SEARCH will help you in the future?

A: I think the experience will help prepare me for future employment by giving me practical skills and a better understanding of the workplace. Having the opportunity to build my confidence now will also help me feel more prepared when taking the next steps in my career.

Q: What does being part of Project SEARCH mean to you?

A: For me, Project SEARCH is an opportunity to grow, gain valuable experience and move forward in my career journey. I’m looking forward to making the most of the internship, learning from the people around me and becoming more confident in what I can bring to a future workplace.

Q: And finally, what is something your colleagues might be surprised to learn about you?

A: Probably that I have a Bachelor of Criminology! It’s an area I found really interesting to study, and completing my degree was an important achievement for me.
