Northern Health has been recognised as the Large Public Health Service of the Year at the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards, while also taking home the award for Excellence in Value Based Healthcare. 

The prestigious recognition celebrates the dedication, compassion and commitment of Northern Health staff, volunteers and teams who work every day to deliver exceptional care to one of Victoria’s fastest growing and most diverse communities. 

In a message to staff, Chief Executive Adjunct Professor Debra Bourne said the achievement belonged to everyone across the organisation. “It was an incredibly proud moment for Northern Health to be recognised as the Large Public Health Service of the Year and to also receive the award for Excellence in Value Based Healthcare,” Debra said. 

Reflecting on what makes Northern Health special, Debra said it is the people behind the care who define the organisation. 

“When I think about Northern Health, I’m not thinking about our beds, our numbers, our data or even our achievements. I’m thinking about the people. I’m thinking about our staff and the difference they make each and every day when they come to work.”

“I think about your commitment and your passion. I think about the way our staff always roll up their sleeves, work together and do whatever it takes to support our community.”

Debra also acknowledged former Chief Executive Siva Sivarajah, recognising his vision and leadership in helping establish the strong foundations that continue to support Northern Health’s growth and success.

She also thanked Board Chair Adjunct Professor Alan Lilly and the Northern Health Board for their ongoing guidance, support and stewardship. 

On behalf of the Board, Chair Adjunct Professor Alan Lilly congratulated Debra and all Northern Health staff and volunteers on the achievement. “This is an incredible achievement in the history of Northern Health and reflects many years of improvement and innovation,”

“All staff and volunteers should be justifiably proud of this award, recognising our commitment to providing outstanding care and service to our community.”

For Debra, the award is a reflection of the people who make Northern Health what it is. “At its heart, this recognition is about our staff and the community we are privileged to serve. These awards belong to you.”
